My recent work has been heavily rooted in my own personal experiences and struggles with identity, trauma, and memory. I use photography as a tool to reflect on myself and the past. Photography is a medium that I find allows movement through time. In my work, photography acts as a marker for my own personal feelings, emotions, and in the grand scheme of things, my own mortality. I use image making as a way to ask questions I don't know the answers to and in some cases, with time, photography is able to give those answers. I explore themes relating to societal teachings and how those teachings end up affecting people's identity and self image. The patriarchal norms and teachings surrounding masculinity are one of the topics that I have been investigating. I explore how the misery, suffering, and pain caused by these systems are inherent parts of life and that, without them, there would be no real joy, beauty, or comfort. In reality, we are all just travelers trying to figure out our own stories in a world that isn't quite fit for us. By using photography as a form of social commentary, I hope to bring about a better understanding of the relationship between beauty and pain as well as to show myself and viewers that our delicacy and emotions hold more value than the price of conformity.
